The 2nd Annual Colorado Photography Festival will be held from August 10-15, 2012. Eight of the nation's premier photographers will give instruction in the classroom and in the field on numerous aspects of professional photography, from capturing your images to optimizing them in Lightroom. This year's instructors are Marc Muench, Grant Collier, Colby Brown, Mark S Johnson, Stephen G Weaver, Russ Burden, Glenn Randall, and Dan Ballard. Each of these photographers brings something different to the table, as they specialize in different areas of photography, including landscape, wildlife, people, travel, close ups, HDR, and night photography.
The indoor classes at this festival will take place at the Auraria campus in downtown Denver. This spacious campus is nestled beneath dramatic skyscrapers and offers a good view of the Rocky Mountains. On Saturday, August 11, five of the instructors will give talks on a different theme related to photography. On Sunday, each instructor will lead a workshop with up to 12 participants at one of the many scenic locations around Denver. Participants who sign up early will have their choice of any of the eight workshops.
There will also be optional classes people can join on Friday and on Monday thru Wednesday. On Friday, attorney and photographer Charles Zimmerman will give a seminar on the business of nature photography. On Monday, Marc Muench will offer a class on Adobe Lightroom. Marc will also lead a 2-day field workshop on Tuesday and Wednesday.
This festival is open to photographers of all skill levels. Before the presentations on Saturday, Grant Collier will give a brief talk on the basics of photography, including aperture and shutter speed settings, filters, equipment, etc. The remainder of the presentations will focus on more advanced or specialized photographic techniques. Also, since the workshops are limited to twelve people, the instructors will be able give one-on-one instruction to the participants and assist anyone who needs help with camera settings.
The cost of this festival is $275 for the entire weekend. This payment will let you attend all of the presentations by the instructors on Saturday, and you can attend a field workshop of your choice on Sunday. Everyone who signs up to the weekend session will have the option of attending attending any of the additional classes on the weekdays for an extra charge. We will arrange for participants to receive discounts on lodging at the nearby Curtis Hotel, and all participants will receive a free copy of Grant Collier's book "Colorado's San Juan Mountains." We also plan to raffle off several photography items.
"Dan Ballard is one of the most charismatic and talented professional photographers from whom I've ever had the pleasure of learning. At the Colorado Photography Festival in August 2011, I had the opportunity to hear Dan present a lecture and slideshow on "Adding the Human Element to Landscape Photography" as well as participating in a full-day field workshop with Dan. I found him to be the most outstanding speaker of the entire festival. Dan's communication style, professional photography knowledge, and worldly photographic experiences are amazing. His energy and enthusiasm are utterly contagious and this made it a double treat to also to participate in his full-day field workshop on "Unlocking Creativity & Making Powerful Images" as part of the festival. Dan taught me so much that has helped to move my own photographic skills many jumps forward. I would highly recommend any seminar or workshop he presents, because this man has a talent not to be missed!"
